Brain tumour risk in relation to mobile telephone use: results of the INTERPHONE international case-control study
INTERPHONE Study Group · International Journal of Epidemiology · 13-country consortium
Summary
Largest international case-control study of mobile-phone use and brain tumors. Overall no increased risk was observed for regular users, but the highest decile of cumulative call time showed increased odds of glioma, particularly in the temporal lobe.
Key findings
- 01Elevated odds of glioma (OR 1.40) in the top 10% of lifetime call hours
- 02Tumors more likely on the side of the head reported for phone use
- 03Findings later cited by IARC to classify RF-EMF as Group 2B (possibly carcinogenic)
